There are many archived papers and a medal of honor awarded to my Great Great Grandfather. Can I get Them?

His Medal of Honor is on display in the Park Ave Armory. Also a Letter from Lincoln recommending Alexander Shaler for a promotion. Can I petition the government to get these things for my family. I am his direct descendent. What are my family's rights to this stuff. Thank you. There are many archived papers and a medal of honor awarded to my Great Great Grandfather. Can I get Them?
If they are on display it's because someone in your family history has already given them to the Armory body. That persons wishes take priority over any ancestral claim you may have. First thing you need to do is find out how they got into the possession of the Park Ave Armory and after that you will most likely find out they have them lawfully and you can go and visit them like any other visitor to the museum.

You may also find out that even if there is a claim to them...other relatives have a stronger claim. Yes, he is your GG Grandfather however someone in your fathers generation may have a stronger claim or even someone with a more direct blood connection. There are many archived papers and a medal of honor awarded to my Great Great Grandfather. I should think you'd have every right to them if they were not directly bequeathed or donated to the Armory. There are many archived papers and a medal of honor awarded to my Great Great Grandfather. Can I get Them?
What would you do with it? I think it would be safer there.
What was his name?
