If you were an officer, would you salute the new Medal of Honor recipient if you crossed him on base?

I read where some Italian boy was awarded the Medal of Honor last month. I also read where officers who cross his path on base, at least when he is in his military outfit and his Medal of Honor can be seen, are expected to salute. It's not that they have to, but are encouraged to do so out of respect.

If you crossed this young man's path, would you salute him?If you were an officer, would you salute the new Medal of Honor recipient if you crossed him on base?
As far as we are concerned we consider it a requirement and one we adhere to with pride! This is a long standing tradition and one we fully support.
His family lives a few houses down from me in Hiawatha, Iowa. They are great people and I just saw him a few days ago, so yes I would salute him!

If I knew him or recognize him, yes, I would. There are certain protocols that single you out if you refuse to do them. For instance, an enlisted is expected to salute a retired officer. It's not regulation, but it's something that can get one into trouble by his direct supervisor. If you were an officer, would you salute the new Medal of Honor recipient if you crossed him on base?
Yes because he gave the biggest risk that all of us are expected to take that many do not. he shows what every soldier should aspire to be, not saluting him is simply moronic and self-centered.
It is not required, you are right. However, it is definitely out of respect. I'm pretty sure if some high brass saw some officer not saluting he would correct them PDQ.
Everybody salutes MOH recipients including the President.
Of course I would. We even named a Naval ship after one of the recipients (Dunham).
